A Texas Roughneck Transformed by Jesus

Javier Ledezma“Jesus has changed me,” Jim, “I am a totally different person; I want to be baptized!”
Javier Ledezma is a tall, muscular Texan who works on oil rigs as a roughneck.  He is a real cowboy at heart who is rarely without his cowboy hat and boots, and loves riding horses.  But this strong, tough man had met an enemy he couldn’t conquer:  drugs.
Javier fought a losing battle with drugs and alcohol for years, bringing great strain on his marriage and unhappiness at home.  Several times he had gone into rehab after his wife had given him an ultimatum, only to fall right back into his addictions upon his release. His work as a roughneck (seven days on, seven days off) only brought more temptation that he had no ability to overcome.
Then one day, at the end of his rope, Javier repented of his sins and prayed to receive Christ as his Savior.  In one moment, Jesus Christ did what no one else could do – Javier was transformed from the inside out.  “I don’t even recognize this man; it’s been such a radical change,” his wife, Olinda told me. “Our home is such a place of peace and happiness now.  I come home and Javier is singing and worshiping Jesus around the house.  I really didn’t even love him anymore; I had given up.  Jesus has become so real to our family; only He could heal our family like this.”

At lunch yesterday, Javier’s eyes filled with tears as he talked about the difference Jesus has made in his life.  “I take a lot of kidding and mocking from the guys at work, but even they can’t deny that I am a changed man.  After knowing Jesus, I would never go back to the old Javier.”
This last resurrection Sunday, we had the privilege of baptizing both Javier and his wife, Olinda.  Javier’s face glowed as he testified of his commitment to Christ and his desire to live for Him.  Javier and Olinda have had weekly Bible studies in their home, Javier has begun to read his Bible every day and enjoys listening to praise and worship music in his truck.  The words of Paul in 2 Corinthians 5:17 have been brought to life for us in the form of a Texas roughneck:  “Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; the old has gone, the new has come!”

Just like He saved Javier, Jesus will save you too.  He bled and died and carried your sins on the cross, and then rose up from the dead for you.  Jesus offers you eternal life and a place in His family.

Would you like to know Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior today?  Are you tired of your futile fight with sin and your inability to change yourself?  The Bible says, “everyone who calls on the Name of the Lord will be saved.”  All you have to do is “confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead and you will be saved!”  Jesus is as real as the cursor on your monitor.  Call out to Him right now in your own words.  The thief who died next to Jesus on his own cross called out to Jesus, “Remember me!” and Jesus gave him eternal life.

Jesus will save you and trasform your life today.  Ask Him.
