I was channel-surfing the other day and stumbled across a concert by the BYU Men’s Chorus class of 2000. I like choir music, and, in many ways, their concert was enjoyable and exceptionally impressive. They sang classics in Latin, sang opera in Italian, sang sacred music and fun music, and their harmonies were spot on.
Then they tried to sing a soulful Andrae Crouch song. Read the rest of this entry »
Today would have been my brother’s 45th birthday, and boy, did he enjoy big birthday parties. Nothing made Sam happier than huge mobs of people playing games and laughing together.
In honor of his special day, I have put together some videos, a letter I wrote to Sam on his 30th birthday, and some photos of a tribute given in Sam’s name at Judson College. I hope he eats some “angel food cake” for me in Heaven.
WOW! A dumpy Brit with bad teeth showed up on “Britain’s Got Talent“, sang like an angel, and now will be performing for the Queen. Simon Cowell was speechless. See what happened when I took the quiz, then take it yourself and report back to us. Read the rest of this entry »

I don't know about you, but I am sick and tired of being led through a myriad of stupid touch-tone menus for 15 minutes before being told by a recording that I must dial an addtional number. If you feel like I do, then consult this website for the codes you need to get through to a human being at the company of your choice. Enjoy…
I felt stressed and tired today. This week has been hard on all of us with Dad’s continuing chemo treatments and church life driving full-steam ahead. This afternoon as I sat at my desk, I began singing that old chorus, “It gives strength to me” and my burden began to lift. Read the rest of this entry »
How Fear of the Supernatural Can Lead to Sloppy Exegesis
I was a cynical, 14-year-old skeptic as I sat in the back of yet another youth camp church service in Concan, Texas. Growing up a preacher’s kid I had seen it all before: the emotional preaching, the quiet crooning of the keyboard player, the altar area quickly filling up with teenagers looking for another emotional fix.
